Sunday surfers

I love the subtle colours of the saltmarsh at Belhaven Beach.  With the cold wind at our backs this morning, we walked across to the beach.  The wind had switched direction from yesterday, when it blew in from the east.  It had created a good swell for today's surfers.  I counted about 26 of them, all tumbling about and enjoying the North Sea surf.
Out at sea we could see the gannets fishing, diving headlong into the sea, leaving a telltale splash where they hit the water and disappeared.  And on the sand, appropriately enough, a surf clam.
As I type this post I am listening to Words and Music on Radio 3.  A fabulous programme.  Today the theme is 'The Silver Sea'.  It's all very atmospheric!  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05mqhb1

There have been some cracking early morning skies this week.  The sunrise has generated a strong rose gold light which has been picked up not only in the clouds but also through the silver-white grasses around the edge of the golf course. I always marvel at the clouds.  Constantly changing, formations that have never been seen before, never to be seen again.

A simple vase on Monday

I have just one flower in my vase this week. A simple, pretty, wild narrow-leaved Michaelmas daisy. The vase is actually a black pottery cup. I wish I could remember where we bought it and who made it, but it is a great favourite of mine. I even made it the subject of a piece of artwork several years ago. Clearly shaped by hand, it has the air of a Japanese piece about it.
