Welcome to the running wave!

Here I am - up and ....... running!  It's taken a while to get to this point.  I have had this blog rumbling around in my head for a long time.  I read and admire many, many other blogs which give privileged glimpses into other people's lives and their various talents and I thought I would give it a go myself!  I think it will be good fun.

A little about me before I click on 'Publish' for the first time!  I come from Hampshire but our family has lived in Scotland for the past 16 years.  I have spent my life working for publishers, architects, investment managers and also I had a short spell running and cooking for my own restaurant.  I love flowers, taking photos, reading, drawing, cooking, gardening, walking and especially spending time with my grandchildren, most of whom live next door!  There is one very welcome little new addition to the family in Melbourne, Australia.  We will meet her very soon and the early posts on this blog will be about our trip to the other side of world to see her and her mum and dad.  An exciting time coming up and I can't wait!

The running wave takes its name from the Gaelic blessing 'Deep peace of the running wave to you ...'.  I love to walk on the beach with my dog, Tilly, and it occurred to me one day that it would make a great name for my blog.  I have hundreds of photos of waves and no doubt I will trot them out from time to time!  Some will be from East Lothian beaches and no doubt, before too long, some from Australia and a few others places in between!

OK, my big moment has come.  It's time to click on 'Publish' but before I do I would like to thank one of my oldest friends at 60goingon16 (who refers to me as Mrs Gaucho, by the way) and also a new friend, N, for helping me set up the running wave.  Love and thanks to you both, and welcome to everyone else!

  2. Hello Mrs Gaucho and welcome to the world of blogging. D at 60goingon16 and I have been blogging friends for a number of years. That virtual friendship turned into a real face-to-face one. I know that I will love what you write because D says so!

After 5 years of writing my blog, I've become a bit jaded and lazy so I'm looking forward to following this new venture of yours; perhaps you'll inspire me to get writing again.

    Good luck!

  4. Congratulations on your first bog post. Incredible, but as I was reading it I happened to be listening to Donovan singing "Deep peace of the running wave to you...." - selected before I opened your blog! Good karma I would say. As someone born and raised in Edinburgh I will look forward to posts and photos of those East Lothian beaches, of which I have so many fond memories.

Sorry if this is a repeat comment - I seem to be having trouble with the Comment ID - it keeps rejecting me!

In a vase on Monday - colour

The intense colours in my vase this week come from nasturtiums, sweetpeas and a single glorious zinnia! Their beauty and love of life speak for themselves and need no further words from me! Enjoy!

Coastal walk from Gullane to North Berwick

By the time I have walked about four miles, my toes are screaming at me - it's the arthritis, you see.  One of the joys of being that little bit older than I was.  However, for a long time, I have been keen to walk along the beaches, and follow the coastal path, between Gullane and North Berwick. So, having worked out the tide times, I decided today was the day, and off we went. Below is our starting point, the bay at Gullane.  It's a lovely beach, very popular with dog walkers. This is looking east, the direction Tilly and I were going to take. Looking back, up the Forth, the unmistakable bulk of Arthur's Seat, and Edinburgh's skyline, just clear enough to see. For most of the walk, there is the choice between wandering along a series of beaches, or following a path along the top of each. There's no denying it, at heart I am a shell-seeker.  I have loads of shells at home.  We lived on one of the out islands in the Bahamas for a just over a year, a lo

Possibly the last post and a sizzlingly hot vase on Monday

The border in our tiny garden is in an in-between phase at the moment and not very colourful, but elsewhere there are pops of high summer colour and I have brought them together in my vase today. The running wave uses Blogger as it's vehicle and they are changing the way a post is created but unfortunately I cannot make the new format work. I can't progress beyond the title! I cannot navigate to the main body of the post to create text. The new template has no prompts for adding photos, weblinks, to format the text, change font etc. It may be my old MacBook that's as fault but I can't do anything about that!! Are any other IAVOM bloggers who use Blogger having the same problems? I have tried, three times, to contact Blogger through their 'Help' prompt and received no feedback or contact whatsoever. This post is using the old 'Legacy' format, which no longer permits any kind of formatting of text, and so after four attempts I have finally manage
