Despite the problems I am having with Blogger this post has made it into the airwaves today! Hooray! The flowers are a funny little collection. A sprig of ling heather from the hillsides of the nearby Lammermuir Hills, yellow fleabane (what an unattractive name for a pretty flower!) picked on a walk at Gosford House, and a couple of little heads of fennel and a few fragrant sweet peas from the garden, to give depth and complementary colour. The vase was given to me by my granddaughter for my recent birthday.
Welcome to the running wave, which I set up as a vehicle for my photographs, with some observational chat and occasionally a little writing. I hope you enjoy the things I enjoy, sharing my walks with Tilly and Ted, and other excursions I have from time to time.
Lovely flowers, especially those sweet peas, Amanda. Wonderful birthday gift that vase (Happy Birthday!) and wow, those amazing fields of heather.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the heather wonderful Susie! I love being in the hills at this time of year - so lovely. There is an apiary on the edge of one of these hills. Can you imagine how delicious the heather honey is going to be! Love your dahlias this week (but sadly can't leave you a message). All those delicious colours! A
DeleteThat is indeed a lovely gift, Amanda, and so useful too, filled today with a collection of pretties. The heather makes a glorioussight, doesn't it? One of our local beekeepers has just moved his hives temporarily up to Derbyshire for the heather, I believe
ReplyDeleteYes, quite a few East Lothian beekeepers move their hives up on to the Lammermuirs at this time of year. Heather honey has to be the best in the world! I think it is!! And as a novice beekeeper I am really thrilled to hear that the powers-that-be have announced that honey is a wonderful cure for coughs, colds etc, instead of endless antibiotics. I know that honey dressings are wonderful for wounds. Bees and everything about them is miraculous!
DeleteA belated happy birthday, Amanda! Your hills are glorious. I love your yellow fleabane and I continue to be awed by the fact that you still have sweet peas at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kris. I am enjoying my daughter's sweet peas rather than more than mine! I grew them all, but the ones I gave her seem to be doing an awful lot better than mine! Smelling sweet and delicious! They have taken a battering today with high winds and endless rain. Lovely summer we are (not) having!! A
DeletePretty flowers, lovely walk, and I love the vase. I am so glad you are getting out and about.
ReplyDeleteSanity and healthy mind.
Love xx
Thanks Sally. The call of heather clad hills is hard to resist! xxx
DeleteOh that is a delightful vase Amanda and what glorious swathes of heather. As you say above in your reply to Cathy bees are fascinating. We are are lucky to have bee hives on our allotment site and it's great to see them visiting the flowers on my plot. The beekeepers sell their honey which is brilliant. Glad that you managed to post this week. I took the easy way out noticing that I could still post on legacy Blogger.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am still on legacy Blogger but they have changed the way it looks as you prepare a post, and it's not possible to see the photos until you check out the Preview option. Very disappointing. I still haven't been able to get anywhere with the new template arrangements - or non-arrangements. No idea what to do! A
DeleteWhat a beautiful view! And such a sweet little vase. Belated birthday greetings!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cathy! It is lovely up there in the hills. Feels so remote but really not that far from home, or Edinburgh! A
DeleteHow lovely that you have shared your birthday gift with us all, and in a way with the flowers and scenery, we have been able to share in your joy of the beauty of heather, as well. A very Happy Birthday and many Happy Returns. I am sure that vase will feature many times.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your lovely message! Very much appreciated! And you are right - that little vase will definitely be featuring here again! A
