Birthday brownies

It's my 70th birthday today.  I can hardly believe it!  When I was young anyone who was over 40 seemed old, but 70 ..... positively ancient.  But now I am here myself and I barely feel any different from the start of all the other decades which have gone before.

My daughter sent me these extraordinarily beautiful brownies, made by Sammi-Jo Gascoyne, the Blushing Cook!  They have arrived in the post and taken my breath away!  Delicious to look at, delicious to eat!  Happy day!

  1. Oh I hope that your special day was full of fun and flowers Amanda and wishing you all the very best for the next decade. I'm just a little bit behind you. Did those cookies taste as good as they looked? I don't think I could bring myself to eat them 😄

    1. It was a good day thank you Anna! Thank you for your good wishes. I have to say 70 feels very much like 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 - just a few more aches and pains! The brownies are completely delicious! I am rationing them a bit to make them last longer! A

    1. A birthday bonus to read your comment! How lovely to hear from you Antonia! I hope you and your family have kept well during these surreal times we have been living through - and still live through! We are all fine thank goodness, but I do think it is easier if you live out of town! More untouchable empty spaces to visit and feel free! So glad you still visit the blog. I have to admit to spending a lot more time on Instagram now and feel a little guilty that the blog doesn't get the attention it used to - except on Mondays! It will always be here though and as and when I go anywhere or do anything other than day to day life, the blog will show it all! Best wishes to you. A

Early morning light

There have been some cracking early morning skies this week.  The sunrise has generated a strong rose gold light which has been picked up not only in the clouds but also through the silver-white grasses around the edge of the golf course. I always marvel at the clouds.  Constantly changing, formations that have never been seen before, never to be seen again.

In a vase on Monday - colour

The intense colours in my vase this week come from nasturtiums, sweetpeas and a single glorious zinnia! Their beauty and love of life speak for themselves and need no further words from me! Enjoy!

A simple vase on Monday

I have just one flower in my vase this week. A simple, pretty, wild narrow-leaved Michaelmas daisy. The vase is actually a black pottery cup. I wish I could remember where we bought it and who made it, but it is a great favourite of mine. I even made it the subject of a piece of artwork several years ago. Clearly shaped by hand, it has the air of a Japanese piece about it.
