Possibly the last post and a sizzlingly hot vase on Monday

The border in our tiny garden is in an in-between phase at the moment and not very colourful, but elsewhere there are pops of high summer colour and I have brought them together in my vase today. The running wave uses Blogger as it's vehicle and they are changing the way a post is created but unfortunately I cannot make the new format work. I can't progress beyond the title! I cannot navigate to the main body of the post to create text. The new template has no prompts for adding photos, weblinks, to format the text, change font etc. It may be my old MacBook that's as fault but I can't do anything about that!! Are any other IAVOM bloggers who use Blogger having the same problems? I have tried, three times, to contact Blogger through their 'Help' prompt and received no feedback or contact whatsoever. This post is using the old 'Legacy' format, which no longer permits any kind of formatting of text, and so after four attempts I have finally managed to post my photographs. I think that it is likely, after eight years of happily blogging, I may find that the running wave has just run out. Can any of you offer any thoughts, help, advice!? I would be very interested to know if anyone else is having the same problems. Thank you! If you use Instagram I will be very happy to carry on chatting with you there @amandagraham2050!

  1. I'm at my wits end with Blogger! As far as the help icon - you might as well talk to the wall. It refused to upload photos and when I eventually found a way around it it would only inser them at the bottom of the blog. Why for heavens sake couldn't they leave it as it was - 'if something works why fix it! So poemblog22.blogspot.com was maybe my last blog also. All the best, Mark.

    1. I could not agree more. If its not broke, why fix it!!! So frustrating. I have had my blog for 8 years now and really enjoyed using it as a vehicle for my photographs. More recently I have really enjoyed Instagram and if I can't get anywhere with the blog I may just shift my allegiance in that direction! Let's hope Blogger see come kind of sense. We can't the only ones! Thank you for your message. Best wishes, Amanda

  2. Oh dear Amanda! I saw the title of your post in my blog reader and hoped that the last post reference wasn't as ominous as it read 😢 I do hope that you can work your way round the issues as I would really miss your lovely photos and informative posts. I wish that I had some tips to give you but hopefully other bloggers will. I use Blogger too and had my second unsuccessful attempt at the new interface today. I always start all my posts by uploading photos and previewing them and was unable to do so despite using different computers and using both Chrome and Safari. I gave up at that point and reverted to legacy but time is rapidly running out. I'm determined to grit my teeth and have another go this week. Your flowers are such summer rich colours and compliment each other and the vase so well. Hang on in there and hope to see you soon.

    1. Thank you so much Anna! Such encouraging words and I hope I can muddle through it all but it is a huge relief (in a way) to know it's not just me and my computer who are having these problems. I have another message from Mark with the same issues. I think the most disappointing thing is that there is no response from Blogger. Perhaps they have been so inundated with frustrated bloggers that they have gone to hide in a deep dark cave. I am considering trying another provider. Wordpress for example. I don't want to have to subscribe because it's an expense I don't need! Anyway, we shall see what happens, and at least there is safety in numbers - not that it will get us that far I don't suppose!! In the meantime I really love Instagram. It's great fun and there are quite a few IAVOM bloggers who post their Monday vases there too! Best wishes. A

    2. I'm sure that you will float through this annoying state of affairs 😂 I've considered switching to Wordpress a few times over the years but don't like the ads that appear with their free blog platform. If you suddenly disappear I will look out for you on Instagram.

  3. Oh no! I use Blogger too and resisted the transition to New Blogger until I received the notice in late July that there would be no option come late August. By the time I made my transition, I think some of the kinks had been worked out, although I did have a brief problem loading photos for one post last week - I think someone at Google must have been tinkering with the programming as the problem resolved itself fairly quickly. I create my posts on my PC as opposed to a laptop like MacBook, which may have eased my transition. I load photos directly from my computer's files in a series as I write my post and, other than the one glitch last week, I haven't had a problem there. As I think you know, I'm already following you on Instagram but I admit it's not my favorite vehicle ; however, I will see you there if not here!

    1. Thank you Kris! Maybe it is because I work on a laptop rather than a full blown PC! As you will see from the comments above, I am not the only one having problems, which brings an element of comfort, but not a lot!! If Blogger would just respond to my three messages to them. So frustrating. I have been trying to use the new format over the last two or three months but nothing has changed, so I think I may have to call it a day, or find another provider!! Anyway, I won't lose touch with you and your lovely garden - it's far too much fun! Amanda

  4. As a WordPress blogger I can't help you with the new editor, but I know on the few occasions I had a problem how frustrating it can be. However, I have usually found that by Googling the problem, others who have had the same issue will have have come up with a solution or way round it. I hope you can resolve it, as it would be a shame to lose you from IAVOM. You have used the perfect vase for your jolly calendula and nasturtium and you can never go wrong throwing a few sweet peas into the mix. Hope to see you again next week

    1. Thank you so much Cathy. As you will see from other comments, everyone has been so helpful, and it would seem i am not alone in experiencing these problems with Blogger. Not sure how to resolve it but I will still post my vase on Monday on my Instagram account and keep up with fellow IAVOM friends there, as there seems to be a few of us who post our photos there too! One question though - if I can't resolve Blogger - do you have to pay for a WordPress blog? I can't afford to subscribe to a provider but would be happy to swap if need be! Thank you again! Amanda

    1. Thanks Sally. Hoping to keep going with the old style for as long as I can, and then it will have to be Instagram, which after 8 years of blogging will be disappointing. But I do love Instagram. It's great fun, more interactive with contact with like-minded people. You should check it out! A really good business tool too! A x

  6. Beautiful vase. Hope you get the problems sorted Amanda. And I thought I had problems trying to log in and write posts on Blogger and Blogspot blogs!

    1. Thanks Cathy. Still battling with a non-performing template with the new Blogger. I think I can muddle along with the old style Blogger but only until they cut the cord!! Later rather than sooner I hope! A

  7. I missed last week's IAVOM, but it worth catching up if such lovely arrangements grace my screen. I find nasturtiums quite beguiling.

  8. I tried to post a message to you (which wouldn't publish I don't think) on today's vase (24 August) because I do love your hydrangea! Frothy and lovely! I first saw that type of hydrangea when we visited my sister in law on Long Island about ten years ago. They were all over the place and at the height of their flowering! Really delightful! A

In a vase on Monday - colour

The intense colours in my vase this week come from nasturtiums, sweetpeas and a single glorious zinnia! Their beauty and love of life speak for themselves and need no further words from me! Enjoy!

Colonsay postcards - on arrival

The first thing I do, once we have unpacked our car, which has been groaning with all the stuff we need for a week's stay in the holiday cottage, is head for the outer gardens of Colonsay House. It is a place of wonder for me! I particularly love the leaves of the giant rhododendrons. There are many different varieties, all planted in the early 1930s. The outer gardens are generally overgrown, having had little tending over the decades. That makes them even more magical! The old woodmill falls apart a little more every year, but that's fine by me because I love corrugated iron and especially if it's rusted! And of course the bees. Colonsay's beekeeper, Andrew Abrahams, has one of his apiaries on the edge of the pine wood. So lovely - the hum of busy bees and the heady smell of the pines. We are here - finally! Delayed by four months by the wretched virus, but now I am on holiday! Hooray!

Found items IAVOM

I am on holiday on the Inner Hebridean island of Colonsay. It is my happy place. Thoughts of Colonsay rattle around in my head each and every day I am not here! I haven't got a vase to share this week but some lovely things I have found over the past few days, which are just as beautiful as a vase of flowers! I hope you agree! Here are some leaves of giant rhododendrons, growing in the outer gardens of Colonsay House. Some skeleton leaves of magnolia. The dried stem of a kelp seaweed. A couple of conkers (can never resist those!), and a branch heavily populated by a number of lichens. The air on Colonsay is so clean that lichens flourish here!
