A stroll along the prom

Monday was a bright and beautiful day on the south east coast of Scotland.  My youngest son and his family live on the edge of Portobello, Edinburgh's seaside suburb.  It has a long promenade which is always busy, whatever the weather.  It buzzes with mums and baby buggies, children on scooters, bikes, bigger children on skateboards, cyclists, dog walkers, the old and the young and all those in between, wandering along the prom, taking the air and enjoying the sight and sound of the waves as they break on to the beach.  On the sunniest of days, there is even an old chap who sits playing an accordion.  If you close your eyes, you could be in the heart of Paris, strolling along the banks of the Seine!

Yesterday my littlest cherub and I had a stroll along the prom.  I scoffed a raspberry ripple ice cream, and it was all very enjoyable.  It's a great place to people watch, and you do see some endearing as well quaint sights.
Another sunny start to the day today.  The dogs and I had a good walk, and, joy of joys, I heard my first skylark of the year.
You might not be able to see it, but it's up there, high in the sky above the field, singing its heart out.  Certainly lifted mine!

  1. A couple of poignant photos there - the old man sitting alone on the bench, with his thermos flask. The thing I noticed most was the shine on his shoes, a man who still takes care to be clean and well turned out, I bet he was wearing a tie as well. I wonder what his memories are?
The well-dressed lady standing at the very edge of the sea, gazing out - again, what is her story?
Mind you, I walked alone along an empty beach yesterday, enduring the constant drizzle, simply because I had to get out and be close to the sea. Lots of poignant memories for me, too.

    1. Yes, I noticed the shine on his shoes too! And the Thermos flask to accompany a planned trip to the prom, newspaper, and all set up for a happy time by the sea! I thought the lady in the red coat was very quaint! Hardly an outfit for the seaside, but she was enjoying herself so what does it matter!!

  2. It's lovely to see someone with a real flask! So sweet that not everyone has joined the latte set!
What a lovely day you had!
    Happy days! X

Early morning light

There have been some cracking early morning skies this week.  The sunrise has generated a strong rose gold light which has been picked up not only in the clouds but also through the silver-white grasses around the edge of the golf course. I always marvel at the clouds.  Constantly changing, formations that have never been seen before, never to be seen again.

In a vase on Monday - colour

The intense colours in my vase this week come from nasturtiums, sweetpeas and a single glorious zinnia! Their beauty and love of life speak for themselves and need no further words from me! Enjoy!

(Not) in a vase on Monday!

The challenge this week, set by Cathy at  https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com to celebrate five years of In a Vase on Monday, was to offer (Not) in a vase on Monday!  So here is my interpretation of that idea with one of my Plant Belles, which I tend to use for things I find and enjoy.  I weave bits and pieces through the metal ribs and keep them until they fall apart, or something even better turns up!  Lichen covered twigs, branches of larch with tiny cones, seed heads, twisted heather stems, anything and everything that has form and beauty.
