Two weeks on

It's two weeks today since I broke my wrist - and amazingly, thanks to the wonders of medical science, I am just about typing with two hands!  I've had the most impeccable, prompt attention from the NHS, including an operation to put a plate in my wrist to realign everything!  I'm black and blue from the left elbow down, swollen, no plaster cast, very tentative, but getting there!  Hooray!

We won't be venturing out today - we've just had our first snow shower of the winter!  Slushy stuff but nevertheless, the garden is looking a little pale!  It will be very muddy and slippy underfoot, so I'm staying put!  Tilly is not impressed, but stalwart little companion that she is, she's happy just to lie under my feet, to keep them warm!

  1. So glad that you are able to type with two hands, but nevertheless it sounds pretty grim. Hope the weather improves for a walk. We are basking in sunshine Down Under. Love to all x

    1. Yes, not really doing much with both hands just now though! Still bashing away with one. Orthopaedic clinic tomorrow when I hope the will tell me what I can and what I shouldn't be doing at this stage! It took me about 45 minutes yesterday to peel and cut up an option, a small bulb of fennel and an apple - for some stuffing for our chicken supper! Laborious to say the least - but I got there! x

    2. Goodness that sounds like hard work. Where is Mr Gaucho when you need him?
I do hope things become easier. Sit back and let everyone else organise Christmas!!! xx

    3. Sitting back is not my forte! x

  2. Today's forecast is for more snow at your end of the country, unfortunately, so stay safe and warm while you can. Great to hear that your wrist is on the mend and no plaster cast, though.
Here we have gales and sideways rain - the usual for this time of year, so to avoid falling branches, my dog and I are heading for a bracing walk on the beach - Brrrrrr!
Followed by a cappuccino for me and a chewstick for him at the Beach cafe, in front of the log-burner.

    1. That sounds like a great idea! Tilly is gagging for a decent walk - I haven't been out much in the last few days. When you go to the beach keep clear of the rocks!!!! Is the beach cafe one of the Venus string? They are great - in lovely positions!

    2. I haven't heard of Venus cafes; this is a family run independent cafe, right on the beach with fantastic views and two log-burners to warm customers who sit, under cover and with glass walls at the outside tables. Coffee is good, too!

    3. That cafe sounds like the biz! Venus cafes are along the south Devon coast - and maybe elsewhere, but always well placed. We've had lovely fine day here - but very cold. Winter is here! A

In a vase on Monday - colour

The intense colours in my vase this week come from nasturtiums, sweetpeas and a single glorious zinnia! Their beauty and love of life speak for themselves and need no further words from me! Enjoy!

Coastal walk from Gullane to North Berwick

By the time I have walked about four miles, my toes are screaming at me - it's the arthritis, you see.  One of the joys of being that little bit older than I was.  However, for a long time, I have been keen to walk along the beaches, and follow the coastal path, between Gullane and North Berwick. So, having worked out the tide times, I decided today was the day, and off we went. Below is our starting point, the bay at Gullane.  It's a lovely beach, very popular with dog walkers. This is looking east, the direction Tilly and I were going to take. Looking back, up the Forth, the unmistakable bulk of Arthur's Seat, and Edinburgh's skyline, just clear enough to see. For most of the walk, there is the choice between wandering along a series of beaches, or following a path along the top of each. There's no denying it, at heart I am a shell-seeker.  I have loads of shells at home.  We lived on one of the out islands in the Bahamas for a just over a year, a lo

Possibly the last post and a sizzlingly hot vase on Monday

The border in our tiny garden is in an in-between phase at the moment and not very colourful, but elsewhere there are pops of high summer colour and I have brought them together in my vase today. The running wave uses Blogger as it's vehicle and they are changing the way a post is created but unfortunately I cannot make the new format work. I can't progress beyond the title! I cannot navigate to the main body of the post to create text. The new template has no prompts for adding photos, weblinks, to format the text, change font etc. It may be my old MacBook that's as fault but I can't do anything about that!! Are any other IAVOM bloggers who use Blogger having the same problems? I have tried, three times, to contact Blogger through their 'Help' prompt and received no feedback or contact whatsoever. This post is using the old 'Legacy' format, which no longer permits any kind of formatting of text, and so after four attempts I have finally manage
