The first vase on Monday

I have recently come across a lovely blog called Rambling in the Garden and the blogger has the great idea of posting a flower arrangement with material taken from her garden every Monday morning.  https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com  This is an idea very close to my heart - flowers, garden - what could be more enjoyable!

So here goes with my first offering.  A bright mix of yellows with some oranges and pinks, and lovely spiky fennel seedheads.  Hot colours, harking back to a hot hot summer.

  1. Oh this really is reminiscent of summer, Amanda - seeing your vase, who would think it was October 1st?! And I thought at first there was forget-me-not in there, but from your lower photo it looks more purple and I can see it is perhaps a verbena. Your cuboid vase is unusual and looks like slate - is it? Thanks for joining us today and we look forward to seeing you often ps the 'popular posts' that appeared as well as this one show the Berwickshire coast - is that where you are?

    1. Welcome to the running wave Cathy! Thank you for your lovely comment. Yes, that is verbena bonariensis. I love it! And the vase is pottery. Made by Colin Kellam in Totnes, Devon. I live in East Lothian, just fifteen miles or so east of Edinburgh. It's a very beautiful county with lovely beaches, and the Lammermuir Hills dividing us from the Borders. A great spot to live, with Edinburgh so close! Best of all worlds. Lucky me! Very much looking forward to the Monday vases from now on! A

  2. I enjoy the warm summer colors but then it still feels like summer in my part of the world (Southern California) - our temperature just hit 90F (32C) and I'm about to turn on the air conditioner. Your post is a nice reminder that I should plant some nasturtiums for spring bloom here. Welcome to IAVOM, Amanda!

    1. Thank you Kris! And welcome to the running wave. I hope you enjoy seeing some glimpses of my part of the world! The west cost of the States and the east coast of Scotland are worlds apart! We certainly don't have temperatures of 32C! Thank goodness!! Best wishes A

  4. super summery flowers, love the combination of flowers :-) welcome to In a vase on monday - you'll see lots of beautiful vases from around the worlds - it certainly gives me lots of ideas about what to grow in my garden (and what NOT to grow). I've just got lavender and eucalyptus in my garden this week. I love photography and walking too.

In a vase on Monday - colour

The intense colours in my vase this week come from nasturtiums, sweetpeas and a single glorious zinnia! Their beauty and love of life speak for themselves and need no further words from me! Enjoy!

Coastal walk from Gullane to North Berwick

By the time I have walked about four miles, my toes are screaming at me - it's the arthritis, you see.  One of the joys of being that little bit older than I was.  However, for a long time, I have been keen to walk along the beaches, and follow the coastal path, between Gullane and North Berwick. So, having worked out the tide times, I decided today was the day, and off we went. Below is our starting point, the bay at Gullane.  It's a lovely beach, very popular with dog walkers. This is looking east, the direction Tilly and I were going to take. Looking back, up the Forth, the unmistakable bulk of Arthur's Seat, and Edinburgh's skyline, just clear enough to see. For most of the walk, there is the choice between wandering along a series of beaches, or following a path along the top of each. There's no denying it, at heart I am a shell-seeker.  I have loads of shells at home.  We lived on one of the out islands in the Bahamas for a just over a year, a lo

Possibly the last post and a sizzlingly hot vase on Monday

The border in our tiny garden is in an in-between phase at the moment and not very colourful, but elsewhere there are pops of high summer colour and I have brought them together in my vase today. The running wave uses Blogger as it's vehicle and they are changing the way a post is created but unfortunately I cannot make the new format work. I can't progress beyond the title! I cannot navigate to the main body of the post to create text. The new template has no prompts for adding photos, weblinks, to format the text, change font etc. It may be my old MacBook that's as fault but I can't do anything about that!! Are any other IAVOM bloggers who use Blogger having the same problems? I have tried, three times, to contact Blogger through their 'Help' prompt and received no feedback or contact whatsoever. This post is using the old 'Legacy' format, which no longer permits any kind of formatting of text, and so after four attempts I have finally manage
