The garden had a lull in interest for about ten days, but while we were away on Colonsay it had a little revival and now there is quite a bit of colour to enjoy. The flowerpots have almost had their day but collectively still have something to offer. The roses, both in the garden and outside, are having a second flowering which is just delightful, and some of the late summer, early autumn flowering plants are in their prime. The rudbeckia in particular is giving a big, sunny yellow smile in the middle of the flowerbed, and the bees are enjoying the helenium.
The runner beans have taken their time to become productive, but we are now enjoying them without the prospect of a huge glut. I managed to plant the right number of plants this year. Same with the purple climbing French bean, Cosse Violette, which has finished now, and were absolutely delicious!
The raised bed is producing lots of courgettes now and a few little Sungold tomatoes. Otherwise it is a mountain of nasturtiums, and I definitely won't need to plant any next year as there are hundreds of seeds lying around.
As we come into the garden and walk past the white phlox there is a delicious, gently spicy smell as the fragrance of the phlox mixes with a curry plant, growing in a pot nearby. I love the smell of phlox. We had lots of them in our garden when I was a child, so it is a very nostalgic whiff for me, every time I pass by. Lovely.
I have few contorted willow cuttings in a pot, or wiggly willow as I always think of it. Once they are bigger I will find a place for them along the drive. The garden looks very bright and cheery. Lovely Autumn colour. Enjoy it all before winter sets in xxx
