There is deep dark stream which runs by the cottage. It is a source of fascination for me, and so are the reeds which grow on the opposite bank. This is the first time we have been here when the reeds are flowering. An elegant aubergine coloured flower. I love the reflections in the water, and the movement of the underwater plants, as the clear peat-coloured water passes through. The smooth glassy surface of the water is occasionally interrupted by the jump of a small fish, reaching for a passing insect.
Today there is a solitary kingcup in flower, with a fat bud just below the water level, confusing September with Maytime!
