By the time I have walked about four miles, my toes are screaming at me - it's the arthritis, you see. One of the joys of being that little bit older than I was. However, for a long time, I have been keen to walk along the beaches, and follow the coastal path, between Gullane and North Berwick. So, having worked out the tide times, I decided today was the day, and off we went. Below is our starting point, the bay at Gullane. It's a lovely beach, very popular with dog walkers. This is looking east, the direction Tilly and I were going to take. Looking back, up the Forth, the unmistakable bulk of Arthur's Seat, and Edinburgh's skyline, just clear enough to see. For most of the walk, there is the choice between wandering along a series of beaches, or following a path along the top of each. There's no denying it, at heart I am a shell-seeker. I have loads of shells at home. We lived on one of the out islands in the Bahamas for a just over a year, a lo
Just lovely. The fragrance must be breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susie. Yes, it all just scrumptious! A
DeleteWhat a lovelymntrio, Amanda, and experiencing them in person must be wonderful. The Rosa Mundi makes me think of raspberry ripple ice cream
ReplyDeleteAnd smells as good as the ice cream tastes! Hooray for summer roses! A
DeleteThey're all lovely, Amanda. Showing just how different our climates are, my own sweet peas are but a distant memory and my roses have mostly finished their first flush and may not flower again until cooler temperatures return in the early fall.
ReplyDeleteMaybe by the time the roses come around again, you will have a lovely new kitchen to cut a few in celebration! A
DeleteIt looks good and must smell amazing. Those are wonderful sweet pea colours. I find it hard to choose which ones I want, I like the pastels but I like these too. Such beautiful roses, you just want to drink them in,
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to being pleased with the colours of the sweet peas. The flowerheads are rather small, but their colours (and their fragrance) pack a punch. I always seem to end up with too many white sweet peas which I always find disappointing so I made a point, this year, of looking for stronger colours and giving the pastel collections a miss. Seems to have worked! Very few white ones this year! Hooray! A
DeleteLovely and the imaginary scent crosses the Atlantic!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to forget the fragrance of a good rose isn't it! And sweet peas! They are certainly giving us lots of pleasure now that they are finally blooming. And my regale lilies! Too big and precious to pick for a vase, but heavily scented and glorious. About to put some photos on the next Garden Notes post for this week! Hope the weather is cooling down a little for you? We have lovely sunshine but a very cool wind this week. A
