The dogs and I took a short walk through some woods near Pencaitland recently. I am not good at walking alone in woodland but I have been along the path before, with the walking group, and decided that we would just go a short distance before turning back. But I hadn't taken into account the lure of the wild honeysuckle. It started off with just a few strands, rambling through the undergrowth either side of the path.
As we walked on, the vines became more prolific, the scent of the flowers more heady. Despite my reservations about walking too far into the wood, I found myself compelled to walk on further, to see if the next mass of flowers was more extensive than the last!
Eventually I persuaded myself to turn back, but I think there was magic at play, beckoning me onward! The honeysuckle fairy is definitely alive and well, and flourishing in those woods!
