We have had the most glorious weather over the last few days, a real Indian summer. I have seen more butterflies in the garden this week, than I have seen all summer. Red admirals, peacock, tortoiseshell and spotted wood butterflies. They have been particularly enjoying the sedum flowers.
I was up early yesterday morning to join the mountain hare survey walk again. By 8.45 am we had these blissful views across the Lammermuirs and East Lothian.
Worryingly, we only saw one mountain hare. He was a big, handsome chap. We hoped that his pals were hunkered down, out of sight, enjoying the warmth of the early morning sun. This chappie was disturbed by us, walking across the heather, and he took off with speed. He paused on the skyline to watch us for a few minutes, before bounding off, out of sight. We didn't spot him again.
